in the post a heavy boxfull of copies of the latest
issue (vol.24) of japan's gothic and lolita
bible with a trevor brown cover (!!!), trevor
brown stickers and a double page interview / feature
- the magazine usually has old manga style illustrations
on the cover so a fairly radical editorial decision
to use my painting - the
colours are intensified (for newsstand impact) and
i've since repainted the skull ...so the original
art also uploaded

i'm back from my trip to meet the strange and beautiful
people of osaka at my subterraneans
exhibition opening - my favourite girl this time was
yasuko - meeting fans is frightening
at the best of times, but yasuko was an utter freakout
- she stood in front of me for endless minutes intently
gazing before declaring "kawaii!" without
fluctuating - further encounters are too embaressing
to detail here! - i should also give a special mention
for the girl who made this beautiful nurse doll for
me - i never found out her name : ( - i also got to
meet a couple of my favourite artists: photographerken-ichi
murata (and his enviable collection of
models) and swiss madman rudolf

the trauma of the rubber doll exhibition
is over (or half over)! - i reckon it can be marked
down as pretty successsful - fourteen paintings have
sold (happy happy happy!) - and there were approximately
(maybe even exactly) 300 visitors (could/should have
been many more if the book came out much earlier etc)
- my head still spinning with it all - typically in
particular with gothic lolita girl kaori
who lived in the gallery the first and last days and
bought me a pink rose <3

i was sort of intending to do a daily rubber
doll exhibition diary here but i'm always
totally exhausted to do anything after arriving home
- but today i'm itching to show this picture of dolls
based on my forbidden fruit book

came to visit my exhibition today - the actual dolls
i saw (by surprise!) at an exhibition (at the very
same gallery!) a few months ago and they are even
cuter and nicer than this photo!

the happiness of my exhibition opening i arrive back
home to find paypal have terminated
my account - the reason (i guess) is some nice person
informed them i was selling pornography (even art isn't
allowed by them!) - i can no longer send money or recieve
money (the baby art shop is closed)
- i'm not even allowed access to 'my' money for six
months (and of course i currently have a huge amount
of money left with this yakuza-esque organisation) -
fuck you paypal (i know you are reading
this and gloating) !

rubber doll is finished, ahead of
schedule!! - today went to sign and number the 500
limited edition copies, plus a pile of others (almost
four hours of writing your name over and over again
is not an enviable task!) - yet to take stock of the
baby art shop copies, so expect it
on the 20th as proposed hitherto - the book looks
great, i'm pleased!

i'm 'featured' in europe's sign magazine
- which is a "professional journal for the adult-entertainment
industry", ie a magazine full of porno dvd and
sex toy ads - just a tiny little bit in their news section
which made me laugh as the editor asked: "Please,
can you send us some hi-res images of the "rubber
doll" paintings for the article? The images on
your website are too small. Thank you." -
the pix in this article are less than 3cm big, pffft!!
- anyway, small but nice, certainly better than nothing,
and maybe my letterbox will now be flooded with smutty
dvd cover commisssions (...not!)

of the special 'rubber' cover edition of rubber
doll with pierce ring bookmark - release
date now set for the 25th of this month (give or take
a few days?) - i'll start taking baby art
shop orders for it on the 20th of this month

i'm one of a number of artists featured in a new project
of arty pants produced by 3rdware in japan - i was
a bit reluctant and being awkward about the idea so let
designers do mine and relinquished royalties - but the above
rubber doll girl pants are fun (if expensive) and
(proudly?) displayed in the newly opened 3rdware
shop in harajuku, tokyo

the print run of the normal edition of rubber doll
is being restricted to 1000 copies - this is due to the
bad japanese economy and an over-saturated book market (over
300 crap titles put out every day) - it's not limited, if
they sell out another 1000 will probably be printed - but
i guess this won't stop the ebay sellers immediately
proclaiming "...SUPER-RARE !!! OUT OF PRINT !!! HARD
TO FIND !!!..." - la-di-dah....... :-/

book cover design finally settled upon ...probably! - inside
pages are black (almost), so a nice contrast: clean and
white on the outside, black on the inside - the book softcover,
approx B5 size and approx 80 pages, containing 36 new (mostly
new) paintings - cover price 3200 yen for this regular edition
(i may only be stocking the limited edition in the baby
art shop - the normal edition should be easily
available from amazon japan) - out next
month some time, with luck

initial digital colour proofs for rubber
doll scrawled all over with a red
chinagraph pencil at a midnight meeting yesterday
(err, this morning?) - a few problematic images
but mostly it's okay and corrections minor ...
rejected cover design top left - originally
the gasmask doll below was being contemplated
for the cover but scrapped due to fears of more
silly distributor arguments re doll nipples
(even tho she hasn't any!) - so now, after dismissing
every other painting for different reasons,
my dummy image likely to be the cover - which
i think would work well attracting customer
curiosity in bookshops ...

and approved - cover design causing problems at the
moment ...
