all that’s remains to do now is mop up the blood and bandage injuries – i received a nice letter from “the crying girl” mentioned in my book-signing report – before becoming overcome with emotion, she just wanted to tell me “thank you – i’m glad to meet you – i love your works” – but of course quite successfully told me all that and much more without being able to speak a single word

i went for the final day – met etsuko miura on arriving at the gallery – altho met a few times previously this was the first time to really talk with – there was also more time for chat with visitors but most were too nervous to approach me and/or had to be coerced into talking by my book publisher – i was surprised that so many had learned about me via twitter – i.e. very new fans, i’ve only been on twitter three months or so – indeed, practically all my followers are japanese (i presume it’s snubbed now by you facebook-worshipping westerners?)

“i-nazi” and “justice” seemed to be the most mentioned as favorites – and the wall of pencil scribbles and preliminary drawings popular – there’s talk of them being collected into a book, if i can overcome my reluctance – somewhat embarrassing – but apparently akira uno was very interested in them too so that should make me feel slightly less ashamed?

the “girls war” special edition book sold out (so act fast buying from timeless or akatako) – paintings didn’t sell out so serious collectors are welcome to inquire

i’ve survived it! – it’s petrifying but i do enjoy meeting “fans” – especially as 90% are young females – tho in fact it felt too much like a factory line – i was too busy rubber-stamping and scribbling-in “this book belongs to” names (occasionally incorrectly!) – and had little time to do more than glance up, say “thank you” and sometimes shake hands, before the next person ushered in – no time for chat with favorite girls (hello rin! hello akaneko!) – tho many still left an impression (hello merolly!) – particularly a girl at the end standing very unsteady, maybe wanting to say something but ended up breaking into tears (i only made one girl cry this time – i must be losing my touch?!) – counterbalancing that emotion there were also those who looked utterly bored and indifferent! – also gracing the gallery with their presence were the ethereal minori – and moirachan finding time before going off to see babymetal live

seven red dots counted (thus far) – which i’m happy about (as half expecting to find nothing sold!) – one bought by a mental asylum doctor (why does that make me feel worried she likes my art?!) – and embarrassingly discovered cat pee on one painting (i’m not going to say which one) : /

today setting up exhibition – which i wasn’t required to participate in much – as everything more or less done by the time i arrived – i was however called upon to sign countless hundreds of books : (

the book, hot and wet off the press, looks spiffing – a huge improvement on the drab printing of “alice” – special edition has fluorescent yellow lettering – mini-book also fab

there is a little surprise in the exhibition (a big surprise for me in fact) – but more on that later…

i have a painting (probably!) in this group show at span art gallery, 04 to 15 june – i don’t understand the theme tho – erotic not erotic, something “fuwafuwa” (fluffy), explains mrs brown most helpfully – a complete mystery to me f’sure – i guess it doesn’t really matter too much – i’ve just started – three weeks to do something i don’t know what i’m doing (the paint will still be wet) – a crazy busy time too : /

“controversial images : media representations on the edge” edited by fiona attwood – contains a chapter on me written by adam stapleton – other wide-ranging chapters cover photoshopping, prophet mohammed cartoons, bulgarian transexuals, guantanamo bay, kurdish female suicide bombers, a mass murderer’s media manifesto, the british board of film classification, ichi the killer anime, max hardcore, torture porn, animal porn, screened rape, spankwire, call of duty modern warfare 2, and news images – a good read for sure – i’d have bought the book myself, if it wasn’t so hellishly expensive (even the kindle version is over $70!) – the essays are written almost exclusively by university professors and lecturers – so factually intensive and you always get a couple of pages of references – but despite being “academic” it’s very accessible

i-phone size! : ) − image grabbed from the editions treville shop page − it may just be a mock up? − looks cute anyway − and it appears that as well as being a “free” extra for the “special edition” (which costs ￥210 more), it will also be sold by itself (￥840) − pre-ordering opens 30 april − no word on how limited…

new issue of “talking heads” magazine now out, almost! − no.54, a medical theme issue − contains 13 pages of tb (fittingly − 13 ? ) − 5 pages in color, 8 in black and white − includes a few new paintings, the couple shown above from “girls war” (“fight” and “drugs”) and one other unpublished work − an article entitled “trevors girls” − and a “20 year anniversary” interview − which after translation misunderstandings maybe bears little relation to what i actually said (which could be an improvement! − my answers were boring) − the only words in english i can read are “low blow art” which should be “low brow art” (haha! − i think “low blow” plobably better!)

also in this issue many tb favorites: moira, kenichi murata, lots of kenichi koyama medical works, tsurisaki kiyotaka, makoto aida, and much more − the bulk of the magazine is actually text but lots of nice art in this issue

the exhibition is at bunkamura gallery in shibuya 15 to 26 may − a book signing “event” on the 18th (waaahh!) − 30 paintings in the exhibition including one which is not in the book − all available for sale, buy buy buy! − if any overseas collectors are actually interested in buying you should probably email span art gallery − yet to make a price list actually but everything under five figures (dollars)

span art have made a couple of posters − “black tuesday” (the gothloli suicide bomber i used as a new year e-card) and “angels of death” (unseen as yet) − B2 size (51.5 x 72.8 cm), 200 copies of each, all signed − altho ready already i don’t think they’ll start selling them till the start of the exhibition − i imagine akatako will stock for sale in america

span art also making a couple of A4 clear plastic files with different artworks − i’ve not seen them tho they’ve done some before for takato yamamoto and akira uno i was, or am, planning on making a poster or two myself − i think i might leave this till after the exhibition now tho − (akatako “exclusive”s?) − i keep changing my mind − one was/is a new non-”girls war” image anyway − also want to do a jigsaw puzzle of “revolution” (above), limited to 50…

most importantly (?) the book going to the printers this week i believe − it’ll be out before 15th may anyway − includes 34 paintings − things like “seppuku” (as seen on tumblr several thousand times), “kamikaze” (the urbangarde cd cover) and “war” (old new year e-card) which inspired the book − plus a few other old-ish pieces which only barely fit the theme but previously “unpublished” and in need of collecting somewhere − all the rest is new − as always with editions treville, the book will come in regular edition and limited special edition (300 copies?) − the latter planned to come with a miniature version of the same book ! ? !

beware, the book includes a terse (punk?) “interview” i didn’t want − a marginally better interview (or article based on an interview) appearing in the next issue of th (talking heads) magazine − a sort of trevor brown retrospective article − a medical theme issue actually (also includes kenichi murata i think) so maybe good?! − out the end of this month? − japanese only

actually it’s “女の子戦争” (onnanoko sensou) − which is an urbangarde song title − which translates to “girls war” − which i’ve used as the inspiration/theme for my next book − which is now pretty much completed − and maybe out next spring to coincide with a solo (?) exhibition at bunkamura gallery in tokyo (no official dates yet actually) − at the risk of over-hype, flyers (see above) announcing this have been included in all new pan-exotica (editions treville) books recently − also the (slightly embarrassing) union jack stickers (see below) now found affixed to the shrinkwraps of the new trevor brown books (“medical fun” and “alice” reprints) − “since 1993″: a celebration of 20 years in japan − any more questions?

akatako’s first piece of trevor brown jewelry is available for pre-order now! − due to arrive not quite in time for christmas so they’ll be shipped after the holidays − a 925 sterling silver pendant based on my “education” painting from “my alphabet” − featuring a “japanese school girl hanging from a noose, holding her little briefcase schoolbag behind her with pens and pencils stabbed into her eyes” − some kinda social comment i suppose? − the pendant measures 1.75″ (44mm) long and comes with a little polishing cloth to keep her shiny and new (chain not included) − price $60 − i have seen it and happily approved it, i think it does look nice

a new edition of my “medical fun” book (from 2001) is coming out the end of this month − it’s slightly expanded with the three “fix-me-doll” paintings and the skull “teddy bear operation” − also sports a new cover − the first edition had an aseptic milky white vinyl cover with a slightly puffed up red cross − a limited edition was produced with a fake blood filled cross (and little air bubbles added free of charge) − exactly what the liquid is is a trade secret − i think only two known cases of sleeve mishaps and pink stained books − the manufacturers apparently underquoted for the book cover so it was always known a “reprint” would never happen − and, in any case, the cover came to the attention of the japanese red cross association who weren’t too happy about it − so the new edition has a cloth (bandage texture?) cover − and comes in two flavors − gothic lollic pink and military medic green − the latter being limited

a reprint of “alice” has been in the shops a month or two − exactly the same except a more chocolate black used on the dustwrapper and covered hardback is purple/yellow instead of grey/red

after several delays, the most embarrassing of which being me managing to sign prints upside-down (!), the “which dreamed it?” giclee is at last available (exclusively) from virtu gallery − limited to just 25 − nice big size (i believe they did it same size as the original) − varnished canvas prints − $300 plus postage − here!

forthcoming from timeless editions, a new compilation book of trevor brown black and white work! - a completely different collection of work to “temple of blasphemy” - it recovers some old artworks dating back to the mid eighties missing from that book because i never had access to them at the time for one reason or another - and then continues up to selections from post temple of blasphemy “mania” books - with assorted odd’n’sods in between - many “rare” and unseen gems and atrocities of varying degrees of embarrassment - and rarest of all, a picture of ME on the fxcking cover!! - this will be an edition of just 500 copies - 112 pages - introduction essay by romain slocombe (a prix goncourt literature award nominee this year!) - price probably 25 euros (plus postage) - expected out before the end of this year - i’ll announce again when pre-orders open

forget what i’ve said before - my “toy box” exhibition now scheduled to be held at span art gallery, 16 to 28 april 2012 - it’s actually the gallery i first thought most appropriate, in terms of size at least, but no one listens to me - hippiecoco, aka mrs brown, may be making some things for it too - eyeball head “dolls” and such? - a sort of collaboration - well, she’s enthusiastic about it at the time of writing here now - but all plans liable to alteration? - oh, i also have one painting in span art gallery’s “girls” group show in, i think, november - more details as’n'when

made some preliminary plans for my next exhibition - this’ll be the “cute” painting series for the wishful-thinking babies board book - altho the book idea inevitably abandoned, i’ve continued doing the paintings regardless - 15 so far, at least 20 planned - the exhibition will most probably be at the auspicious bunkumara in shibuya again - and probably around this time next year - and probably with one or two “supporting artists”, as the gallery is big and my paintings are small - and i’ll probably self-publish the works as a boxed post card set (i doubt more than a few hundred) - a tin box enthusiastically suggested - but of course another artist, who i get accused of copying, has already done that (so maybe i should do it anyway?!) - it’s still a way off - but advance warning for collectors and/or anyone planning a trip to japan (as exceedingly unlikely as that is!)
