surprisingly this was a “k approved” yahoo auction purchase - ryomou shimei whoever she might be? - the ultimate in otaku anime absurdism? - same as the silly goth samurai nurse figure bought last week - not for sale to children under the age of 15 it says on the box, haha - they even censor her giant boobs - (but her sexy butt is okay?!)

two years ago, at the opening of my rubber doll exhibition at subterraneans in osaka, i was presented with the above nurse doll - in the turmoil i never even learnt the girl’s name - i made a request on the defunct japanese news page of my site here for her to contact me - finally today i received a letter from her! - in fact she did see my appeal before but due to health and computer problems the moment passed - maybe the spate of nurses on my blog lately reminded her - she made the costume herself apparently (i presume the hairdressing too) - i still keep her doll unopened

and above, yet another new tb nurse dolly acquisition - this a cheap licca-chan doll found on the japan yahoo auction - sadly (or fortunately) i don’t have my own yahoo auction account so purchases there depend on k’s approval
the nurse doll glut still isn’t over yet - i hope you’re all hating it : )

after months of “coming soon” the daikichi amano web site has finally ejaculated onto the www - altho only 12 photos to see (i hope the selection will continually update?) and a couple of links not functional yet - besides being kicked off myspace etc more times than me, daikichi is most famous for his frog porn dvds (and questionable sex with other unfortunate slimy animal species) - and, if that’s not your thing, he also has a dvd series of girls being strangled for your onanistic pleasure - the covers are pretty, um, eye-catching - mondo bizzarro have an exhibition of his very striking photography next month

and more www news:
just heard from a reliable source (LAS post here) that stu mead’s site is being threatened due to alleged “virtual child pornography” violations…

a luxurious full colour spiralbound “zine” printed on 300 gram card featuring (mostly) unpublished “otto aime toto” era works by pascal doury - with a dvd mounted onto the inside back cover containing a 25 minute film made in 1984 of the artist explaining his works for the “otto aime toto” book (grainy vhs quality of course, and moving in and out of fccus, but otherwise very fine - the original artworks are superb, many 3-dimensional) - as always, doury disciples will snap this up while everyone else remains bemused

my favourite find yesterday - a fully articulated doll made by mamachapp in 2003 - one of a pair of nurse dolls but the other looked more like a maid so i passed up on it
also found a “ikki tousen ryomou battle nurse” - a stupid otaku figure which’d previously annoyed me by its abundance on ebay but anonymity in shops here (i’m still looking for the equally stupid “nurse you don’t know amane shiratori”)

lgj, my fellow triskaidekaphilliac, insisted i check out edward gorey - previously i’d always dismissed him because of some unfortunate association with (american) goth girls and, thus, something not for me - and even before that dodgy trendiness i think i’d maybe flipped thru a couple of books and found them too subtle (?), or perhaps droll a better word, for my unsophisticated tastes - anyway, i’m now older and wiser and that wry macabre humour more appreciated - this, his most popular work, sold me - (plus learning things like he collected images of dead children!, ho hum) - went out today and bought a couple of the four anthology books (the first one actually contains all the best stuff but of course the bookshop here didn’t have it)
also, aspiring to lgj’s obsessive collecting, found a few more nurse dolls today (another tedious boring post tomorrow?!) - friday the 13th is unlucky?

yesterday spent in the company of long gone john - a visit to baby doll, a little shop specialising in cute old japanese dolls and toys - then back to konomi and trevor’s doll and toy museum (ahem!)
john: “do you get fans sending you nurse dolls after hearing about you collecting them?”
trevor: “ha ha ha! - nah! - i should be so lucky”
ironically in my terminally empty mailbox there was a package containing the above lil neko nurse - thank you gea!!!

mingled with the los angeles invasion at the tomio koyama gallery for mark ryden’s “snow yak” show opening - most particularly with long gone john (who i think is great) (and not just ‘coz he buys my art) - surprised actually it wasn’t really as crowded as expected - and the white fur dress code thankfully not strictly enforced - konomi and me making only a concessional effort taking along one of our cat toys (see above pic)
happy to meet the baby-faced etsuko miura - also the even-more-beautiful-in-real-life jessika scarling (who i swapped some letters with a few years back re a possible trevor brown exhibition at the doomed-to-fail marilyn manson gallery) - haha, typical trevor, just mentioning the cute girls - did swap business cards with mister tomio koyama himself - and other important people …who’ve probably discarded them already

permitted into the “private room” for an audience with the art god himself - which unfortunately in fact meant being photographed more times than was sanely judicious (i’m totally unphotogenic) - but an opportunity to get the nice exclusive photo above of mark and marion - and the less glamourous photo of the private room wall below

oh yes, had a little look at the paintings too - eight altogether - which are technically amazing of course - every square centimeter of the unusually simple “flat” backgrounds are meticulously painted - generally i like ‘em far more than the tree show things - tho much less impressed by the superfluous room of pencil/preliminary drawings - insanely priced at $10,000 a pop (i’m definitely sticking another nought to the price of my paintings now!), nevertheless half had been snapped up - and checking the price list (with no prices actually marked) when we left, just the big million dollar painting and one other was left unsold…

yep, another in the why-tell-us-about-it-if-we-can’t-buy-it “taboo” tb archive booklet series (even if it WAS for sale, would you even buy it?!) - the usual internet scrapings etc (omitting the baby art blog gab) - covering the year 2008 - a slim 32 pages of dull text - same cheap low quality - maybe the last one i do (but i always say that) - i just give to carefully selected recipients or use as trading fodder - a set of the tb yaso “arisu” post cards included with this unexciting volume

went to the mari shimizu doll exhibition at parabolica-bis - the third in yaso’s victorian/alice series of exhibitions - inevitably bought the inevitable post card set - i got introduced to a (very cute small) fashion designer who had an installation in another room - not understanding 75% of the conversation (and misunderstanding the other 25%) i said “yes” and “okay” to everything - but discovered she was a friend of yoko of urbangarde (see post below) - incestuous little world - i met mari shimizu herself five years ago at my lil miss sticky kiss exhibition when she gave me a copy of her first book (now seemingly out of print and expensive - altho they had copies at parabolica-bis) - her work has become more mature and distinctive since then (tho a less impressed mrs tb, staying at home, scoffed a koitsukihime influence)
