comix ‘n’ crime

jason’s “athos in america”, tardi’s “new york mon amour”, sacco’s “journalism” – all excellent

“the bus stop killer” currently reading – a lack of uk serial killers since fred west so i got excited seeing this – but it’s a lot of fluff – the uninteresting moron doesn’t need 300 pages – peter sotos’s “pure filth” ordered the day it was released (two months ago) – amazon.jp repeatedly delayed their delivery date, then stopped giving a delivery date, then gave me a new delivery date (getting my hopes up) but failed to deliver again – order cancelled, clearly i’m not going to get the book – sorry peter! (it was kinda expensive anyway) – instead bought “let me take you down” – as you might guess by the title alone, not exactly written with the sympathies of lennon fans in mind – and accused of glamorizing mark david chapman – i’m ok with that, sure to be better than all the lennon sycophants and conspiracy theorists proselytizing – (the tardi book kinda alludes to this case and the john hinckley thing, hence my sudden interest)

Sorry to hear about your issues in getting ahold of PURE FILTH. I likewise ordered a copy once it was opened for pre-orders and only received it in the past couple of weeks. It took its time but I finally got it in my hot, little hands. However it wasn’t via Amazon.

The price is/was rather steep, however its seems to be the norm with Sotos titles recently. The good news is it is beautifully presented by Feral House, who have really done it justice – certainly in comparison with the hackjob Creation Books were peddling – so it’s well worth the price in my opinion.

I’m not sure if it’s still in print, but perhaps you could try ordering it directly from the FH website and bypass any Amazon shenanigans.

    Parla Trevor!

Have two of the titles – the last Jason book, “Athos”, and Sotos’ “Pure Filth”. Did like the Jason book, especially the autobiographic piece, what a scream! “Pure Filth” I’m still reading – hard to stomach some of it – the late Gillis was one, eh?, “intense” individual. But what really gets you are the row of degraded women. Must confess I really don’t know what to make of the book – but I would certainly get it while its still in print. Got my copy from Amazon and arrived right on time.

As a suggestion, I recently got this:
    http://mariafusco.net/editing/cosey-complex-book/
A nicely put together catalogue commemorating Cosey’s infamous 70s ICA expo. They seem to have held a very short event there on Cosey’s work.

Also got around and finished reading the latest Matthew Stokoe title “High Life”. A bit over the top for my taste – the violence is such that the entire thing becomes surreal – yet, still, good to kill time while waiting for the dentist.

and it’s in my hands now – you can read almost all (?) the book on the amazon preview but i’m happy to have a real copy – (still think overpriced tho!) – jamie gillis is hilarious – only ever fast forwarded thru one of these films, which was more than enough for me
