this image (once again) currently doing the rounds on tumblr racking up a thousand “notes” (likes and reblogs) within a day – but of course it’s so trivial and transient that by the next day it’s old and boring and no longer hip to like – for fifteen minutes anyway it was mindblowing, intriguing, freaky as fuck and CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPY – and likened to the birth of athena, “my girlfriend’s brain” and the results of unprotected oral sex – a couple or more declared they had drawn/painted something similar – one drawing proffered:

i decided to google and found the drawing below by another artist:

he says it was suggested to him by a friend who had the idea “in her head” (ahem) for some time – and he was amazed that, to his knowledge, no one has ever used such a “beautiful concept” in art before – and adds the curious comment: “that moment of shared creativity when you have the exact same idea as somebody else is just priceless. although, i suspect copyright lawyers may not share my perspective…” – but to confirm the originality of his drawing, a ps added a month later states he’d been looking around since and only found the tool image (below) which was remotely similar – hmm…

my search actually resulted in quite a few more brainchildren, the best collected here:

incidentally – my painting inspired by a copy of the children’s “eyewitness science” book on the human body – it’s a combination of a number of the photos in that excellent book (now out of print it seems but can be bought for one cent?!)

to add to this – someone’s just reminded me of the marilyn manson “autopsy” video clip
Not directly related, but it does involve fetuses and skulls:

I threw together a quick video for G.G.F.H. – Fetal Infection with images i found using google image search for “fetal skulls” or something, and inevitably the Tool image showed up in the results. It shows up just barely noticeable in the video at about 1:26.
“I need
Fetal skulls
to hang
on my walls.
I’ve got
a whole collection
I’ve got
A Fetal infection”
There’s also Premature Ejaculation’s posthumous label Malaise Music logo, baby skull in a skull http://s.dsimg.com/image/L-181869-1265388981.jpeg http://malaisemusic.com/
Funny you opened this thread with this topic.
For about three weeks i\’ve found our conversation about the manson video in my email-files.
So on i scrolled through my rss feed and this website opened :
Could be interesting too …

en esta pintura de alex grey tambien se puede apreciar una ligera tendencia a feto en el cerebro http://alexgrey.net/img/interbeing.jpg
Very nice. I’ve also done this before and thought it was the coolest idea ever but nothing is original it seems. I first came across it being done before in Tool’s video for Vicarious and I was kind of bummed but I’ve changed my opinion on that since. Its quite an interesting thing, I’m glad others have done it before. Everyone has their own twists to it haha.
The difference in the concepts is really interesting though, even if the imagery is similar. Not just the idea of a “brain child” but whether the foetus is there instead of the brain, thus providing for the body. Or whether its there growing inside the head like a womb, feeding from the body (until “birth”?). Note the different placements of the umbilical cord.
Also can you please credit the artists or provide reference links for the images?
