koenji

went into my neighbouring town of koenji in the midst of a street performance festival - my favourite was this cute and creepy “maiko” with vacant stare and a toothless smile, wobbling along on very high wooden clogs

and went to see a trevor brown painting now on permanent display at a shop (and small gallery) named “alice and the beanstalk” (i think?) - they have a blog here

What a discovery! Least you’ll know it’s always there if you want to see your painting. Cool performer!

    mitama

a lone woman who has been on a never-ending search for a man since the ancient edo period??
is this a ghost that won’t give up, all the while thinking, “is there a man out there who will love me?”
and the ghost now materialised in the 21st century?
everyone, please be kind and show her your love!

how attached do you become to your paintings? Are they hard to sell after spending so much time on them? Do you keep a copy of every book you put out?

not too attached - it’s better to sell everything and that forces me to make more - i have no space to keep paintings anyway, i can’t be precious about them

of course i like to keep copies of books and anywhere my art used - it’s amazing how many publishers will stingily try to deny you that right and think your work means nothing to you

Thanks. Always wanted to ask an artist that question.
