listen-up nerdy kittlings, the game kat is back to tell you what owns in the world of console gaming - the first of regular reportage re what tb is frivolously wasting his time on this year
darksiders:
this got the sofa-bound controller-clutching decade off to a very fine start - this game is love - equal parts huge tomb-raider-ish puzzles and rpg psychedelic hacking’n’slashing - everyone says zelda but to me it’s more like onimusha (sorely missed) - nice chunky design - fun bosses (i hate boss battles generally) - some great voice acting and wry dialog (bar the atrocious main character) - an enjoyable lengthy, sometimes demanding 25+ hours gameplay (therefore all the kiddies say it’s a peasy 5 hrs max on “apoc” difficulty)
god of war collection (gow i and ii):
i want the inventor of the cheap lame “quick time events” game mechanic dead! - and a stupid mashing the trigger(!) button thing fairly soon impeded my progress on gow i - didn’t think much of it anyway so retired - gow ii also vastly over-rated by my reckoning but i persevered and by the end quite enjoying (the “puzzles” at least) - so i guess i’ll look forward to gow iii next month
mass effect ii:
i’m a graphics junkie - and this is basically more like an interactive high quality cg film than a game (some of the mini-games in this are inane/mindnumbing!) - it’s unfortunate that anything which does fall short of such hi-def polish (such as problem hair, grass…) stands out jarringly - level design is also bland, precious few outdoor scenes, endless recycled graphics (doors are exactly the same no matter where in the universe you are, no matter which alien civilization constructed them, even on your spaceship - see pic above) - it’s entertaining anyway - i’m halfway thru it…
army of two 40th day:
…and this lined up next - altho the (co-op only) demo sucked (just my bad luck getting lumped with idiots?) and it’s so gay, i picked this up because i like the detailed (uncharted ii style) graphics and can enjoy playing by myself - nothing beats playing with yourself, kittlings

mass effect II…who did you end up rubbing up against?
Did you play the first one?
I was about to start ME2 but Stalker: Call of Pripyat showed a bit of leg and started winking….the tart.
i didn’t play the first one - that’s another annoyance with this sequel. the developers assume everyone has
Your able to carry stuff over from the first game into this one.
You might want to check out Dante’s Inferno.. Yeah I know it’s a GoW-ripoff of sorts.. But I started playing it last weekend and loved it. The “lust”-level with deformed babies and female demons, phallus-adorned temple..
(although some quick-time events here and there..)
yes, that’s another demo i didn’t enjoy that much (inane ‘o’ button mashing ad infinitum - and the clichéd comix cut scenes) but i’m gonna buy it anyway …for the lust level
I didn’t play the demo at all. Dante was just one of those “I must buy”-games.. And since playing the demo spoils the surprise a bit I just preordered it.
It’s almost surprising how much Visceral got to put in this game under the watchful eye of EA. Almost made another comment about cutscenes and stuff but .. I’m not gonna ruin the surprise
I hope you enjoy it anyway. I know I am
bought (along with bioshock 2) yesterday - more than lust it was seeing clips of gluttony that completely sold me - i’m actually eager to play this now
but i think still some way to go in mass deffect ii (mass deffectives, gea included, are the new sad trekkies!)
and the misadventures of pb winterbottom is gonna jump my game queue (love the music!)
I like star trek
you are just pissed the game wont share all its secrets with you
nah, just tiring of all the episodes i must sit thru before i can go kick the butts of the reapers/collectors/cerberus or whoever - last night i finally triggered the “suicide mission” - it’s been pretty “entertaining” but i guess i won’t be holding my breath for “me iii”
kelly was my sex interest btw - you can’t bed her tho : (
