new reading matter

yep, it appears i only ever read music bios nowadays (in the lack of anything else to entice me) – “a saucerful of secrets : the pink floyd odyssey” and “the wicked ways of malcolm mclaren” – altho ordered the same time (before xmas) i’m still waiting for the latter actually (“please wait two months”!) – i wonder if it’ll include much mention of what, in retrospect, must qualify as the apex of malcolm mclaren’s wicked publicity stunt plotting – a delirious but serious scheme to launch a “child porn” magazine called “chicken” (street slang for a young girl or boy) backed by record label money – i think it was vaguely described as a sexy magazine for minors – but defended as making a polemical point re pop music being porn for children – and/or pop music using children for adult consumer titillation – whatever malcolm’s arty intellectualising, it was primarily of course a promotional device for his latest protégés bow wow wow – but the questionable marketing ploy inevitably never got off the ground (emi pulled the plug on it?) – and it all passed with relatively little controversy – too early to monopolise on the sort of press outrage such an unthinkable project would provoke nowadays – ….hmm, i should use the polemics argument for my own work (if i don’t already!) – media obsession with child pornography disguised as child protection

and the pink floyd book (almost half of it is focussed on syd) not nearly as awful as it’s cover
