i’ve been proclaiming myself as the pioneer of “baby art” lately (as so many young artists seem to be copying the style) but i think the honour or blame should actually go to pascal doury - a highly productive and highly underrated obscure french artist, most active in the eighties working alongside bruno richard putting out an endless stream of diverse publications under the name “elles sont de sortie” - while the associated french radical art collective bazooka have gained some wider recognition in recent years, pascal doury’s obsessive, subversive and explosive art has remained shamefully ignored (even by his peers?!) - to my mind this is proof positive the art world is bollocks, how can keith haring quickly rise to major art star status while the similarly unique and possessed work of pascal doury is dismissed as the worthless scribbles of a mad junkie? - anyway, his name is being kept alive through the efforts of xavier laradji (timeless) and uli augustynen (eyecatcher) responsible for the comprehensive elles sont de sortie web site - out now is a box set, “tirage de tĂȘte”, including silkscreen prints of unpublished work, a facsimile “sketchbook” and a bilingual book made with bongout featuring more rare unpublished works, texts, interviews, etc …produced as a limited edition of just 100 copies - the bongout book made available as an edition of 1000 - details here
