to celebrate the worldwide release of crystal castles debut cd i am uploading a conversation held with their manager “mikey apples” - this was supposedly initiated with the purpose of resolving the “misunderstandings” between crystal castles and myself - but you’ll notice that despite my several attempts to initiate the subject of payment, not once would he discuss that matter any further! - so what the hell this is all about (beyond insulting me) i don’t know - “professional” band managers have nothing better to do?

as i wrote in my blog, before my evaluation inevitably got soured, i did actually like what they were/are doing - i even wrote and told her back then (i think it was always "alice" i was talking to) that i believed in them and was sure of their success and so would be very happy to be associated with them
sadly, they had other plans (the tshirts etc) which showed an insulting disregard for me
I think there was genuine miscommunication.
I can vouch for them when I say that they had no intention of ripping anybody off with this, and they really did think that there was some agreement. I do know that they had trouble keeping in touch with you while travelling, and that your replies were few and far between.
Again,…this was before my involvement, but I do know that they are truly upset things have come to this.

Not one single copy was pressed.
The suggestion by our label that the "banned" cover would be for sale was their idea, not ours.
We had originally wanted to use that as the cover, which of course would have needed clearance from you, but none of our distribution even wanted to touch it because of course it used Madonna’s likeness.In the case of it’s use on t-shirts, we can provide you with records of our Myspace sales. You will be surprised to find that the price including shipping could not compete with the countless bootlegs that have been made and are still currently available for purchase at record stores all over the UK where the band is becoming popular.
We were notified of this after asking fans where they had purchased the shirts in cities we had not yet performed in, and therefore had not sold merch to.This is a complicated point because of course, there is our knowledge of what has been sold, the countless bootlegs, and your belief that we have made gigantic profits from the sale of t-shirts when in reality it has provided us with fuel and hotel stipend on our UK tours. (which we are hoping to get out of the red if the album is successful)
With regard to the 7″, agreed, we will come to an amount for the very small limited run that was pressed and will share this cost with Merok records.
As for continued use of the image, I invite you to let me know what the image is worth for a limited agreement with a period that we both find acceptable. This would be strictly for t-shirts.
If we could agree on something, then we will also be able to stop bootleggers to the best of our abilities and keep a tight control on the use of your image moving forward.

Just adding my tiny data point, but I did see CC selling the Madonna shirt with your art on two occasions in 2007 in San Francisco. The date that I distinctly remember was March 16. Good luck working things out (?) with the band and label.
You’ve thrown around insults all over the “conversation” you’ve posted, quite childishly as well, and then complain about being called names in response to your immature behavior. Obviously you don’t want to talk to this person on the phone because you don’t have the brainpower to come up with responses in the moment. They’re not making huge money off these shirts, which is all you seem to care about. You were all fine with someone “stealing” your art as long as you thought you wouldn’t make any money off of it, and now you act as though you actually give a crap if someone uses your image/art while it’s actually greed that drives your actions. Anyway, here’s my take on it so far..
Trevor is a nice, reasonable, easygoing and generous guy..I know this from my various dealings with him.
Trevor gets ripped off on a regular basis by anonymous assholes and when he comes upon some non-anonymous folks using his art without paying for it, he asks for compensation. In return, he gets lied to and insulted by the thieves and their supporters. This makes an otherwise goodnatured and laid back guy fairly testy, and it’s quite understandable, no matter what Carl and Elliot say. Carl and Elliot and anyone else who holds their opinion should remember that this is how Trevor makes his living, it’s how he puts food on the table for himself and his wife.. so when some kids rip him off and their fanboys and fangirls start calling him all sorts of names and yelling that he should just be thankful that their idols saw fit to honor him by stealing his stuff, I’d say that Carl and Elliot might be bent out of shape, too.

This brings up an important question…what adult male over the age of 18 or so actually wears a t-shirt as anything other than an undergarment? I’ll admit that I bought a couple of tokidoki shirts, but just to look at…I never wore them and eventually gave them to the Chilean so she could flog them on e-bay for crack or catfood or whatever.
I don’t know about anyone else, but when I see some 30 year old dude wearing a t-shirt with something printed on it, I know he’s just one good slap away from sucking cock.
I suppose an exception to this would be if the t-shirt is a solid color and expensive, worn under a jacket or sport coat..that’s more of a fashion affectation than an utterly clueless proclamation of immature faggotry.
Another exception would be if one were in an appropriate setting for such a thing… on vacation in Tijuana or Thailand, doing hot work out in the field, etc..
