Archives Under "art" (RSS)
just come out – i could be wrong but i believe this is the first bone-fide book collection of kira imai artworks – includes 27 works from the past couple of years – published by parabolica bis, she has an exhibition at their gallery right now (i haven’t been yet…)
this one very much my favourite – reminds me a lot of the chapman brother “zygotic acceleration” – coincidence i’m sure – altho she has some liking of my art (to a certain degree?), i can’t imagine her poring over les oeuvres de jake et dino chapman for inspiration
went to the new “necrophantasmagoria” takato yamamoto exhibition and picked up his new book warm off the press – as always with editions treville there’s a signed/numbered special limited version (500 copies) alongside the regular edition – this has a much nicer black cover with silver edged pages – content the same – there’s only 21 new works offered and six older works reprinted – each is accompanied by a commentary (in japanese and english) – and the pencil preliminary drawing, identical to the paintings except in line – very fine, good to see at the exhibition, tho it would have been gooder (more interesting) to see earlier rougher pencil drawings – i guess a fan-pleaser despite the relative lack of new work* – akatako and timeless have it available for pre-order
* he’s been busy doing oil paintings i believe – i haven’t seen but my wife says they’re incredible
there’s an inherent snag in telling both your parents and your sister what you want for your birthday – the idea was to avoid getting sent boring socks or summink i don’t want – but the actual result was i got sent summink i don’t want! (it must be the rule of birthdays?!) – i now have two copies of jake chapman’s introspastic! – i’ll probably give the extra copy to someone unsuspecting (who also won’t want it)
Jake Chapman’s latest novel has it all: love, loss, introspective nihilism plus breakdancing squirrels. Any reader seeking true insight into the fraternal bond at the heart of the Chapman’s misunderstood work will find this book a massively insincere obstacle.
out now! – another artism compilation of “underground” artists with a gurokawaii inclination – my favorites this time (besides of course lostfish and trevor brown) are tsukiurabeya grishare, hiroyuki takahashi and hanamushi enu – 80 pages full color – inexpensive 1000 yen asking price – available here (more expensive 2500 yen asking price)
