went to see an exhibition of john santerineross at the jimbocho gallery in, err, jimbocho, a couple of stops along from akiba my video game and plastic nursie shopping haunt (more on that another day) - a small newish gallery showing the like of kenichi murata, yasuji watanabe and kaneko kuniyoshi - i was a little surprised to be recognized by the owner from my previous anonymous visit: “trevor-san desu-ka?” - i missed an exhibition by this artist (i think they are oil paintings?) - anyway, happy to see john’s work and the opportunity to pick up a copy of his second book (already have his first) - the bottom eva-ish photo is not in this book btw, nor at the show sadly…

「エロス・エゾテリック〈新・禁断異系の美術館〉」

a one-off puzzle made with my “toy box” exhibition in mind (this april) - after placing my order it took just three days for the finished item to arrive on my doorstep from the company in slovakia! - 300 pieces, 26 x 38cm - took a couple of hours to complete - quality is nice but i think cost might preclude having lots made to sell - especially being unsure how much interest there would be in it? - going to look into more financially viable wholesale alternatives with japanese companies…

tb in 3d continued - in regard to the miserable lack of trevor brown vinyl figures / dolls, this was commissioned, a couple of years ago, by a tb collector (who owns the original painting - seen below gracing a free magazine cover) - it’ll remain a one-off, however, as personally i didn’t like the face (she looks more eighty than eight!) - a shame as the rest of her is not bad? - tho the guy also had problems sculpting her pigtails - for some reason he tried braiding strings of clay and couldn’t do it, hmm…

is a trevor brown doll ever gonna happen? - i’m pessimistic - there’s a growing history of people saying they’ll do it but ultimately don’t - i met a nice guy at the mark ryden tokyo exhibition a few years ago who proposed one - i designed a lil nurse miss sticky type figure for him - but took it out of his hands after several months of no activity - and gave it to another acquaintance who was keen to do it - the figure modeled - and, altho the sculptress has a kinda cartoonish style, i was happy it looked suitably cute (more eight than eighty!) - the box art was also completed by myself (involving a couple more paintings) - everything ready-to-go! - but it’s since been sitting on the shelf in the hong kong factory for around two years now - only the sculptor got paid (sulk!) - i’m reassured the project isn’t cancelled - but………(!)

anyone else want to make a trevor brown doll? - and make me unhappy!
