alice in bubka

a double page spread in the may issue of bubka in japan - bubka is a very popular idol/gossip/humour magazine - notorious, in my eyes, for cramming as much onto every page as possible and screaming newspaper-style scoop headlines everywhere
“trevor brown’s alice” is out!

who’d be a publisher?

i’ve embarked on a new (mini) book project - a series of small, 33cm square, “cute” paintings - maybe 16 illustrations all-told, with accompanying verses - envisaged ultimately as a tiny but chunky four or five inch square children’s “board book” (thick laminated pages with rounded corners) - in my more heady moments i fancy founding a publishing company, “baby art books”, so i can produce this exactly how i want - but, alas, for assorted reasons, that is unlikely to happen - so perhaps the most that can be reasonably expected is a small exhibition somewhere (ie tokyo) and a bunch more jpegs that’ll circulate the net with scant reverence - i’ll pursue the dream regardless…
alamode magazine 06

my spread in alamode magazine very pleasing with big full page images, bio, extracts from a translated intervew and half page advertising for my exhibition (yay!) - altho previously a fairly underground magazine, starting this issue they are getting wider distribution in japan i believe - but i don’t know how/where to get hold of it elsewhere in the world, i’m sorry t’say - it’s a 110 page full colour magazine focused on visual rock and is pretty, um, visual! (a darker version of “gothic & lolita bible”?) - cover price ¥1000

alice book

trevor brown’s “alice”

the next major trevor brown exhibition is being scheduled for mid april this year - the theme is “alice” - and it tends to be paintings obscurely inspired by as much as recognisably faithful interpretations of - the exhibition is being organised by span art gallery, who are staging it at the much bigger bunkamura gallery in shibuya - because of the size of the gallery i’ve dragged in doll artist yuriko yamayoshi as a co-star for the show - hopefully a book of the work will be published to coincide - approx 30 paintings (includes a few old pieces) - as i write we are awaiting go-ahead permission from my publisher’s distributors (there’s only one or two paintings they might grumble about …i think?)
